Highland Charging to victory
Saturday saw the second annual Crossfit 57North in-house competition, the Highland Charge. And 2018’s effort was even bigger and better than our inaugural event in 2017!
17 same-sex pairs battled it out across four events in the bid to be crowned winners of the Highland Charge 2018.
Ready, set, row!
Events Alpha One and Alpha Two kicked off proceedings with a pairs max row for distance, before going straight into four minutes to find a three rep max bench press. The challenge of establishing a three rep max under fatigue saw many members surprising themselves to set personal bests and the crowd really got behind the teams, cheering them on to push for that last rep.
The third event of the day, Event Bravo, was a six-minute EMOM:
Every minute on the minute pairs completed:
8 synchro box jumps 24”/20”
Max power output deadlift
Prior to the event starting, pairs submitted the weight they wanted to deadlift – this would avoid any tactical changes when teams saw what weights their fellow competitors were using. The number of reps was then multiplied by the weight used to give final scores for the workout.
The final workout of the day was kept a surprise until the last minute and teams were paired up based on the current standings to end the day with thrilling head-to-head battles. The workout was a six-minute relay-style workout:
AMRAP6 (as many reps as possible)
10/7 assault bike cals
10 dumbbell thrusters (15/10kg)
The crowd really got behind our competitors as they battled it out in their final bid to be crowned Highland Charge champions 2018.
Every competitor did 57North proud and gave each event their all – well done, team! The competition finished with male winners of Dan and Frazer and female winners Christi and Eilidh.
A massive thank you to all the judges and volunteers that made the day run as smoothly as possible. Celebratory burgers, beer and banter followed! Happy training and see you at the Highland Charge 2019.
